其实经典往往不难读,举个例子,以下是KJV(英王钦定版圣经)的节选传9:11:I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
乔治奥威尔将这一段翻译为「现代英文」来体现KJV的简洁:Objective considerations of contemporary phenomena compel the conclusion that success or failure in competitive activities exhibits no tendency to be commensurate with innate capacity, but that a considerable element of the unpredictable must invariably be taken into account.
KJV是17世纪初的书籍,可以说是莎士比亚同一时代的,按理来说我们会更熟悉下面的「现代英语」,因为后者的时代与我们更接近,但是这里更古老的KJV却好懂多了。
难懂的往往不是经典,而是经典的释文,因为经典往往要考虑到普及。周易尚书之类确实难懂,但春秋左传论语之类则会因为要写的晓畅明白而精简行文,经典太过简单明了各人就会各安其义,于是春秋之后就出现了左传公羊谷梁,而左传公羊谷梁后又出现了注疏正义,这样下来门槛就慢慢提高了,就会出现《论语》里看似简单的一句话在专家和普通中国人之间有完全不同的含义这种情况。 |
