"Game comes out in 1 week, so here's some leaks:
an implied multiverse exists, but only sparingly; Eorzea is mentioned, indicating that FF14 may be connected the mother crystals are the collective main antagonist of the game the mother crystals act like the fal'Cie from FF13, albeit without suicidal tendencies as they pit dominants/eikons against each other to see who is worthy to remake the world in their image & continue the cycle of controlling life the mother crystals seek to remake the world in a perfected form, but the current world of Valisthea is said to be the "sixteenth iteration" of their attempt at an ideal world (this is implied to be a 4th-wall-breaking metaphor for Square trying to course-correct the Final Fantasy franchise aside from Clive, every other major character is killed off before the end game, including Hugo, Goetz, and Cid [spoiler[Clive and Jill don't end up together Anabela gets infected by the blight & becomes a boss fight similar to Ravus from FF15 Torgal is the Fenrir dominant Dion is an implied homosexual there are light and dark eikon variants which directly oppose each other via a ying yang system Benedikta sleeps with multiple people Benedikta defects after Dion kills Kupka, but she eventually dies most of the world gets destroyed throughout the story at some point, you control Cid during a major boss fight, but briefly the blight is essentially the starscourge from FF15; it comes from the Dark Eikons Barnabas' role is a false antagonist, a red herring essentially, as he seeks to end the tyranny of the crystals and free the world (similar to Cid Raines from FF13), but the Clive doesn't see it that way the hooded man is an ** Joshua from an alternate future + he is the final boss final boss is separated into 3 phases: ** joshua, dominant joshua (mechanically similar to Urizen from DMC 5), and final phoenix joshua Joshua's role was to guide Clive down the path of fulfilling the will of the Mother Crystals via subliminary manipulation in order to kill Barnabas & continuing the cycle of war. Joshua was to burn Valisthea in a resplendent blaze of fire, creating a new one from its ashes in order to fulfill the prophecy, referred to as "Ultima" (AKA FF16's version of Armageddon), ordained by the crystals' fruitless beliefs. The war of the Eikons/Dominants is meant to keep the power scaling system in check & to prevent mortals from creating an uprising against the crystals' domination. the game ends in a sad, albeit bittersweet way; Clive accepts killing ** Joshua, ending the Mother Crystals' domination, causing them to disintegrate. Most of the world becomes post-apocalyptic, but life may return. Post-Credits shows a hooded Clive carrying a reborn young Joshua in his arms with Jill taking Torgal with her. They go their separate ways. No sequel bait. The End no story DLC planned there is a cinematic boss fight sequence via chocobo mount the red star = Ultima Prophecy + coming of the true Phoenix most of the Eikon fights are on rails a la Phoenix vs. Ifrit And that's it. Have fun."
