我查了一下reddit上面说应该不是SMR盘
https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoa ... ystores_smr_or_pmr/
Since WD isn't giving much information about these here's what I know.
The 12 TB Easystores contain one of two drive models: The WD120EMAZ and the WD120EMFZ.
WD120EMAZ - R/N: US7SAM120 - this appears to be a white label 12TB Red WD120EFAX - which is itself a relabeled UltraStar HC520 spinning at a slower speed (and surely other changes). All these drives share the same R/N #
WD120EMFZ - R/N: US7SAP140 - This drive is the more interesting of the two. Notice the "140" in the R/N number. This is a drive size indicator. The other drives with this # are the UltraStar DC HC530 (14TB), and the upcoming WD140EFFX 14TB Red. Yes this appears to share a base model with 14TB drives - meaning it has either been binned or WD is just firmware locking these to 12TB in order to sell to that market.
As for whether either of these are SMR - I have seen no evidence. The WD120EMAZ is approximately 30g lighter than the EMFZ drive - but that may just be because the EMFZ has an extra platter for 14TB rather than the EMAZ being SMR.
Also all WD drives that are SMR to this point have claimed TRIM support. Neither the WD120EMFZ or WD120EMAZ drives I own support TRIM. So I don't believe these are SMR. It does suck that WD won't tell us one way or the other. Perhaps they intend on replacing the 12TB easystores with SMR drives eventually. |
