Wade Wilson’s marriage has been anything but normal from the day he tied the knot with his demon bride, but somehow, occasional cultural differences aside, Deadpool and Shiklah just seem to work.
Make that “seemed to work,” as the Merc with a Mouth and the ruler of Monster Metropolis one a collision course set to culminate in March when “Deadpool: Til Death Do Us…” explodes across all three of Deadpool’s Marvel Comics’ titles.
Announced today via ComicBook, Wade and Shiklah’s simmering animosity comes to a boil in “Deadpool” #28, before spilling over into “Spider-Man/Deadpool” #15 then “Deadpool and the Mercs for Money” #9. The storyline then continues across all three series’ April releases as well.
To be fair, the inciting incident of the crossover isn’t entirely baseless; The surface world begins to intrude upon Shiklah’s kingdom, so the ruler responds in kind. This forces Wade to choose a side, and, well, he chooses humanity.
Whatever happens by the end of the event, however, fans of the Deadpool/Shiklah relationship can rest assured the pair will get back together — eventually. After all, they have a daughter whose adventures have been fueling the Deadpool 2099 story slowly unfolding in “Deadpool.”
“Whatever happens here, we do know there is a reconciliation,” “Deadpool” writer Gerry Duggan told ComicBook. “We’re playing the super long game, where there are peaks and valleys. This is definitely the deepest valley that Deadpool and Shiklah have navigated.”
“Look, I’ll be honest, there may be some Shiklah fans that might not, necessarily, love the arc,” Duggan admits. “But I would say, in the long game, this is something that was destined to happen out of The Gauntlet. Also, it’s a super long game that we’re playing.”
“We have made **s for Deadpool, and this is a big part of them,” added editor Jordan D. White. “This is a big part that we’ve been looking forward to for a long time, but it’s also just kind of the start of the craziness. There’s so much more to come, it’s going to be amazing.”
“Deadpool: Til Death Do Us…” arrives in March from the combined creative efforts of Gerry Duggan, Salva Espin, Joshua Corin, Scott Koblish, Christopher Hastings and Iban Coello, with two sets of joining covers by Reilly Brown and Jim Charalampidis.
